Answers to frequently asked questions.
If you still have a question after reading the FAQ, feel free to contact us!
Yes, although we are primarily focused on mixing and mastering! Please contact us if you are interested in booking a recording. We work together with Sound Vision Studio for this.
We have a lot of connections with different session musicians. If you are interested in working together with someone, drop us a line and we will put you in direct contact with the right person.
Just like video, audio has a resolution. Simply said, a higher resolution delivers a more realistic reproduction of a sound. In audio, resolution is expressed as the amount of samples per second. An old-skool audio CD has 44.100 samples per second. White Sea Studio runs at the highest possible sample rate in audio engineering which is 192.000 samples per second (better known as 192kHz)
Running a studio at 192kHz without artefacts requires specialised equipment and a lot of knowledge. The difference will be noticed in a clearer, crisper and less distorted sound. You will also notice a way better stereo image when listening on a proper stereo setup (or headphones).
Mixing and Mastering
If you're not sure about which services you need, feel free to contact us. We never want you to pay for something you don't need.
It depends a bit on the song and the service, but in general:
You start off by exporting your own mix of the track, this will be used as a reference later on. Then, make sure that effects like reverb and delay are bussed (100% wet on an aux channel). Keep all your own plugins turned ON! Export all separated stems to .wav or .aiff files at the source sample rate and at 24bit.
For mastering, export a stereo bounce of your mix, and make sure it doesn't clip. It's best to keep the highest peak at -6dBfs.
Transfer everything to the studio as instructed in your booking confirmation.
In general, it is a good question to ask yourself if you actually want to copy an artist or shine as an individual. If you have answered this question, then it is a matter of making sure that the arrangement and sound design are correct. Feel free to ask this by contacting us.
Sometimes, there is a reason for a small discount, for instance when dealing with a whole album. Let us know if you think that you have a reason to receive a discount and we'll take it into consideration.
Yes, this is possible, but we strictly discourage this. What you pay is what you get, if you pay 50%, we will only send you a preview of the mix (shorter, cutted version). Because working this way makes the process more intensive and time consuming, the price will also be 10% higher. If you are interested in a 50/50 deal, please let us know in the booking form.
A full refund is only possible before we start processing the track. If we have started processing and you have decided to cancel the service, you'll get a 50% refund.
There is NO REFUNDING when we have delivered the first full version of the track. You do get revisions, ofcourse.
After ordering, you will receive an e-mail with all details regarding how to export your tracks and where to upload them. At this point and time, we are using Dropbox as our main file transfer service.
You do not need to have a Dropbox account to use our services. If you do have an account, we will give you access to your project folder in which all delivered files will sit.
The first files you receive will be labeled LV, which stands for Listen Version. These versions are made to tune our work, and are the versions you may give feedback on. These versions are mastered, so, what you hear is what you get!
After you are fully satisfied with our work, we will provide you with files that are unmastered (and mastered, if ordered) at 192kHz 24 bit and at 44.1kHz 16bits. Apart from that, you can request files, such as instrumentals, remix stems or acapella's completely free of charge.
